Bonang joins MetroFM

Top Billing Tv Host Bonang Matheba has joined Metro FM team as of this morning. The SA well known Tv and radio Personality announced the news this morning on Twitter after alluding that she has a big announcement today. I guess now we know what it is..

Metro FM is not the 1st Radio station in South Africa to rope in a celebrity to have a radio slot on their station.  This strategy has some South Africans really questioning the future of SA Radio and were it’s headed. Anyone knows that Radio is all about personality and journalism as well as the ability to articulate the core messages that SA is dealing with or challenged with. What then happens to many Radio hopefuls who want an opportunity in Media especially Radio? What message is Metro FM and all other Companies or Radio Brands that have a weak spot for celebs and think the popularity card will work for them as apposed to actually investing in young men and women in our Society who truly deserve and are probably desperate for an opportunity in Radio and TV. These celebs already have jobs, fashion labels and endorsement deals to topi it all up.

Having some CSI project where you hire  or 2 interns every 2 years or so is not enough. It’s about time companies started to invest in our community not based on entitlement but on merit because some of them deserve the opportunity and actually went to school to study Media and Journalism.

Some credit Bonang with having a hustling attitude and of  years is not course in celebville this makes for good news  as most celebs took to Twitter to congratulate Bonang on her new role as a Radio Host at Metro FM. I am sure at the same time  some of them were secretly wondering why and how she got the gig because as we know most of them would do anything to be associated with Metro FM. I have hung around celebs long enough to know that sometimes one’s joy and achievement is actually not well received although they love to make appear so….
