Can an ex be a friend?

Dating has to be one of the most interesting experiences humans have. It’s not always simple and straight forward and at the same time it can bring a lot of joy.
Earlier this afternoon I caught a glimpse of myself and how my ex – boyfriend and I relate to each other. It made me think. We broke up about 3 years ago and yet somehow I always find something to chat to him about or I subconsciously find a purpose for him In my life. Even I get confused at times. God forbid I turn into a real life Bridget Jones character. I am not sure if we have a title or if we even need one but for some reason we chat and get along (at Ieast I think so).. I do keep my distance from him though because between the two of us I doubt I can keep my hands to myself. LOL

On a serious note, my friends often say when a relationship is over , it is over for a reason and when you find yourself keeping your ex around in your life , one of the parties is holding onto something. Is that true? Have you ever deliberately held onto an ex for selfish reasons?
We have to find a way to create a tier for exes when it comes to conversations like these, I mean let’s be honest not every relationship starts or ends the same way. There are exes worth chatting to and keeping in your life , especially if they add value and you two can co-exist happily and respectfully or if they are children involved.
Can a woman and a man be friends after a break up? What is your experience or what are your thoughts? Have you deleted, blocked and moved on or do you still stay in touch with your ex?
