The one who reigned and still reigns in the hearts of her beloved people
The one who loved us before we could love her back
The one whose bravery echoed throughout Africa and the world creating fear in her oppressors
The kind of bravery only known of a warrior
The kind of bravery that has ignited pride in us
The kind of bravery we boldly stand on as young women of Africa
The one who made courage seem easy and effortless while it came with a heavy price and a load that she carried
A load even perfect words could not begin to describe perfectly
The one who carried her people’s pain as though it was her own
She personified love
She personified grace, eloquent grace
The one who vowed to speak up and speak up she did.
The lioness whose boldness could not be denied even in solitary confinement
The lioness who roared and stood in defense of her children
The one whose legacy we cannot help but honour
The one whose spirit could not be broken
The one whose spirit was filled with love , immeasurable and withstanding criticism and rejection
The wise one
The intelligent one
The beautiful one
The strong one
The nurturing one
The one who gave birth to a nation that could not be contained
The one who laid a new law
A law of courage
A law of tenacity
A law of pride
A law of bravery
A law of love and sacrifice
A law that says women can love and lead
A law that says women can sacrifice and still yield results of success
A law that says with love, loyalty and sacrifice you can achieve anything
A law that says black women will not and cannot be ignored
A law that says we are fearless and whatever we achieve that is excellent cannot be withheld from anyone and even ourselves
It will lead the way and bring a new dawn
That new dawn she did bring
