“DIRTY LAUNDRY” by KELLY ROWLAND

So this morning i am curious what the fuss is about with Kelly Rowland’s song “Dirty Laundry”.  Some say it’s about her jealousy over her BFF Beyonce while others empathise with her based on the fact that she goes all out and shares her emotions about her abusive relationship with her ex-fiance Roy Williams.

Here are some of the lyrics to the song and whati think. You know your girl’s got an opinion. Other than that i love good Music and believe the track was well produced. Tracks that bring about Drama always get attention and often Awards..

“Let’s do this dirty laundry, dirty laundry”

When you’re soaked in tears for years. It never airs out

When you make pain look this good it never wears out.

The below chorus can only refer to Beyonce and Kelly makes no secret of this as she later refers to her as “B” in another chorus of this song. We have all been there. When one sibling succeeds over another or a BFF is doing much better than her friend. What’s new? How you handle this is what makes you a better being at the end of the day.

‘Bitter sweet she was up. I was down. No lie i feel good for her but what do i do now??”

Forget the record, it’s off the record i was going through some B.S

Now this is the part were i question why women still choose to suffer in silence when it comes to being violated? Kelly talks about how this guy obviously emotionally abused her and how nobody would have been interested in her B.S. Isn’t this another Kelly Khumalo scenario?. Where only after the relationship is over they decide to go into their “creative space and write about it or talk about. Clearly in Kelly’s case it worked . That attention and PR plus a good album got her a South African Music Award.

I will give credit to Kelly for what looks like a great album. I love “Kisses down below” and obviously “Dirty Laundry”.The album launches on the 18th of June 2013. Good for you girl.

In this day in age of violence against women campaigns there are still women who are abused emotionally and physically or both and still have not spoken about it or sought counselling, so big up to you for airing this “dirty laundry” song.

The “dirty laundry” track is well written and you can feel the emotion in the lyrics as well. Some SA Artists could take notes on how to come up with well written songs. Not these 1/2 liner songs. As if as African people all we are about is Rhythm and Dancing and no emotion…
