The festive season is here and of course most of us cannot wait to take a break and enjoy time with our families. Naturally we will be tempted to put all plans on hold till next year, probably some of you have. Sadly for entrepreneurs that are starting up like myself there is no rest and that kind of break is non existent in my world. MIChiko is a small business and unfortunately it has been a tough year for me in PR and Image Consulting. My brother starts Tertiary next year and i hope to help my parents with tuition costs etc never mind that i still need to make a life for myself and run and make the best of my business.
I also have an online magazine scheduled to launch in January 2014 and i am excited and cannot wait to share with you the journey as well as the amazing people who have agreed to come on board and be part of this amazing milestone in my life. In addition to that i am baking cupcakes to raise funds to sustain my business. i fear that i am stretching myself too much, but one thing i am grateful for are the dreams that God has given me.
Being the dreamer i am i also have a Foundation that i launched in November called Inno Sky Foundation . It will be focusing on young Teenagers that are in High School and in Tertiary. My aim is to reach out to even one teenager and equip them with information and skills that can help them make the right choices as far as School, life and career choices are concerned. I seek to raise as much awareness about this Foundation as can and i am seeking for Sponsors.
When the odds are against us and we feel we are taking on so much that is when we are in a space to excel and achieve more. Challenges are often seen as negative but they are probably the greatest motivator and if we can do an attitude check we can surprise ourselves with what results we can achieve. It’s not easy as a small business and the journey can be overwhelming. This festive season i was almost tempted to pack my bags and go home and come back early January. This week i looked at Nelson Mandela’s story and I grabbed one thing from it.There was no time for a break. He lost so much along the way and he could not be there for the ones he loved but those were challenges he endured and he came out shining. He could have taken a rest but he did not. His purpose was bigger than him, bigger than his needs.
As small businesses let’s also look at his story and identify what we can do differently and apply our minds to working now and resting later. My motivation for the month of December is to get on with it and continue working. There is so much to be done in improving our communities, our country and the world at large. If each and everyone of us makes it a personal challenge to be actively aware and actively participate in making the world a better place ,it is possible that we can achieve it. So whatever your plans are for 2014 get on with it!!!
