A few years ago when i start Blogging i just wanted to create platform to improve on my writing but to share some of my passions. I had no idea how to create a sticky Blog that would gain readers. In SA there aren’t as many Bloggers as in Europe and in the USA so i did not have someone whose Blog i looked up to. I was running with the vision of what i wanted the Blog to achieve. At that time the platforms that allow you to have an income through Blogging were not there.
I knew i was passionate about writing but i knew nothing about content management. I knew nothing about online tools for increasing your base but i soon realized i was spending so much time online i might as well make money from it or create a platform to grow my brand. This what i did :
I spent a great time online learning how to create sticky content and how to gain readers.
I uploaded as many tutorials as i could so i could learn about WordPress and how to make my Blog fun.
I started following the Blogs i look up and started asking the right questions
Limiting beliefs are what get int the way of most folks attaining success. There is something about making mistakes in private that versus making mistakes in public. Personally i prefer the former. It can open a window of learning , criticism and constructive feedback. Though your errors will be known by many , you will be much better than when you started.Sometimes as Entrepreneurs we want to keep our precious ideas to ourselves in the fear of criticism and shame as people may make fun of us . I believe that is a dangerous space to be in. Open yourself up. Be vulnerable and see what can happen. Get into with an expectation to learn and improve.
1. If you still entertain your fears and think of what you may lose and all the horrible things that could go wrong then you are not ready to stretch yourself and get out of your comfort zone.
2. Have a witness. This is someone whom you know believes in you and they have your best interests at heart. For me that witness was my one of my best friends. She was my proof reader, content partner, name it all but she was as excited as i was to make this work. This person will help you start your on your journey and be your cheerleader but they are not there to do the work for you or coach or mentor you. Find a real coach on business mentor to help you get to then next level.
3. Stop talking about it and just do it. Nothing drives me mad like people who just like to talk but when you ask them to rise up to the party they run for their dear lives so all they are good for is lip service, right? If you do this constantly you will realize that no one gets excited about anything you say you will do coz you never start. Today is the perfect time. Start now!! I challenge you.
4. Tell yourself you will fail from the beginning and GO FOR IT. Blogging is another form of entrepreneurship and it has to be taken seriously after all you are spending money on data , your time spent online doing research etc all has to be accounted for. You will make mistakes in the beginning in any goal you choose to go after in 2015. That is guaranteed, so the sooner you allow yourself to go beyond your first or couple of mistakes the better. Remember if you anticipate dropping the ball, come up with a picking the ball plan and do it instantly , learn from it and move on.
5. Appreciate who you are becoming. We are the sum of all our choices, mistakes , attitude etc. What you see in the mirror is who you chose to be. The days of throwing the toys out the court and blaming our absent fathers or irresponsible Moms is over , therefore we have to be conscious of our potential and maximize on that. When you challenge yourself to learn a new skill or how to use a new application or tool. You are becoming better at what you do and you are allowing yourself to be someone who is willing to have a “can do it” attitude.
