SOME MOTIVATION for the day…..

I am reminded of the time when i was in High School and i was selected to be a Prefect. It was during assembly time and i just heard my name being called out by the Headmistress. I was truly shocked. I had no idea that my teachers had nominated me for this amazing leadership role. I was not event interested and i was not campaigning for it in anyway. You know those students in High School that could never do no wrong and every teacher would repeatedly encourage you to be like them, well let’s just say I was not one of those students. I was just my bubbly self and had a lot of friends.

Today i am reminded of my High School journey and in particular one item in my school attire, my Blazer and the badges i had on it.  Oh how i miss those days!!! Those badges symbolized my achievements and that i was someone to be noticed. I could be proud of myself and acknowledge for my own self confidence that i had potential. I only had 2 badges . One was for the Debate team and the other was for being a High school Prefect. This experience has inspired me to ask some questions .

Where are you in your life right now?

Whether you are a single man or woman or married we go through different stages in our lives and unless we identify the stage we are in and the lessons to be learned we are sure to perish from ignorance. We generally tend to devote all our time on family, children and work that no matter how many milestones or achievements we have made along the way we do not see it. I remember calling one business man that i know successful and he said i should not use call him that. In my eyes this man had a wealth of knowledge and wisdom about business that i did not have. Despite whatever decisions he had made in the past he still could not acknowledge the season he was in his life . I thought that was sad.  People get depressed and they do not even know it. Depression can be fatal and you can lose your life. When things are not going your way do you know who to turn to, do you give yourself time to appreciate what is within your control and what is not? Let’s say you have received good news. Don’t take it lightly call a friend or a loved one and celebrate. Happiness is also a choice. Allow yourself to be happy because as we know it tomorrow will not be the same. What season are you in right now??

Can you wear your blazer proudly?

I chose to join the debate club and spend my time after school wisely. I love engaging with people and discussing issues that matter and inspire change so when i was given a badge for my participation and active involvement i can now look back and say that was a good decision. I wore that badge proudly and i wanted people to see it. What decisions have you made be it career wise or personally that have paid off and you can safely display them on your badge and say “this is me”? I am not asking you this to make you feel guilty. As people we are forget to acknowledge the little and yet significant achievements. As much as people say the Y generation is all about instant gratification i also think it shows an attitude of drive. Yes we want to succeed and we may want it now, which is not always possible. Is that really bad? When we do succeed and we achieve our set goals is it a bad thing to also note that we have done well. I fear being 6 feet under and only being celebrated or acknowledged when i am gone. What will be the point?  Knowing now will give me confidence to do even more greater things for others and for myself. I strongly am of the belief that if you don’t take stock of these good things you will find yourself lost and not tapping into your potential.

Wear your blazer proudly, badges or nothing. It is your journey , take pride in it. If you are on your way to discovering who you are and living a life of purpose or success you are far much ahead of someone who does not know who they are and has not even started the journey of self discovery.
