Who are you???

“What a man can do , he must do”

We all have potential to be successful and in order for that to happen you have to know who you are. When i turned 25 years of age i started to desperately yearn to discover more about myself and my potential. I was getting bored of the woman i was becoming. When i finished High School i was open and honest with my parents about what i wanted to do. From a young age i wanted to be an Entrepreneur, i guess i can safely blame it on my Mom because her and her young brother are the Entrepreneurs of the family and so i was always surrounded by a woman who knew who she was and what she wanted for herself.

On  the eve of my birthday i was looking in the mirror and i was not liking what i was seeing, don’t get me wrong i was having fun with my job, i had a good support structure from my family and friends but i wanted MORE!! After my 25th birthday i took myself back to when i was 18 years of age and excited to change the world and i took note of all my dreams. I thank heavens for vision boards, i guess i was using them before i knew what they were called and my vision boards were stored safely in my Diary. Back then in High school you could not say out loud that you had a diary especially in front of boys. Apparently it was big no no. Years later i am so glad i never followed the norm.  That  diary reminded me that i was still the same person and i could still go after my dreams and start from scratch,  which i did. POINT  1 (define your own destiny and draw that journey map on your own. Start anywhere but be wise to be attentive to timing and the gift that is time. You are not promised tomorrow, therefore do not procrastinate)

Above i posted a picture of  human needs. Self Actualization is at the top and it is ranked is the most important need so you cannot afford to be walking around aimlessly in life and living your life for others. Abraham Maslow proposed a psychology theory called the hierarchy of needs based on his observation of what motivates human beings.I find it fascinating and come to think of it it explains some of the chaos we have in our Societies and where it stems from. Maslow studied what he called exemplary people such as Albert Einstein, Jane Addams,Eleanor Roosevelt, and Frederick Douglass. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is often portrayed in the shape of a pyramid with the largest, most fundamental levels of needs at the bottom and the need for self-actualization at the top. While the pyramid has become the de facto way to represent the hierarchy, Maslow himself never used a pyramid to describe these levels in any of his writings on the subject. Maslow states that human motivation is based on people seeking human motivation and change through personal development.

Have you become your own? Do you know who you are? Do you know what you want out of life and how to pursue those desires?  Maslow lists characteristics of self actualization and more than shelter or food or company and the basic necessities this is one of the most and in my belief the most important of human needs. There’s a song that says “if you stand for nothing you will fall for anything” and i believe while we educate our children and hope they become mature adults it is also crucial that we teach them how to become their own. POINT 2 (the road to self actualization require courage and self love. If you learn to appreciate yourself you will learn to love yourself and if you love yourself you will have courage to fight for your dreams or goals)

There are people who are scared to go after their dreams or marry the person they love or seek a career path they want all because someone else’s opinion or voice is stronger than their own. When you ask them what they want they don’t know and if they do they are afraid to say it or pursue that which they desire.

I finally had the courage to listen to my voice an to appreciate the sound of my voice. There is nothing as liberating as that. It’s almost as if it’s the first time you are walking , not only are you conscious of what is happening , you are enjoying it . You are enjoying the process of transformation. You don’t care who is looking , you are not afraid anymore. You know you will fall but you appreciate the beauty of learning to walk and you have the courage to pick yourself up. POINT 3 (You have to walk before you can run. Therefore accept and challenge yourself with every step you take in your journey. we are all at different levels some need help in order to stand on their own , while others can do it with courage and be self motivated. It doesn’t matter how you get there, there is no prescribed method, just start today)

Your ability to succeed depends on you figuring out who you are and what makes you happy. Life is not a fairy tale and once you become conscious of your ability and purpose you are not immune from challenges but CHOOSE to be a WINNER and not a LOSER.
