Zimbabwean Musician scores big after album debut

Zimbabwean born Afro- jazz musician Bekezela has been nominated for a Skyz Metro FM Award for 2017. This nomination comes after he just released his first debut in August , right here in Johannesburg. Skyz Metro is a radio station based in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

Bekezela’s journey is humbling and yet very inspiring. It challenges all of us to ask ourselves what could we do if we were not scared or if we had nothing to lose. How many waiters do you know who wake up and forsake a stable job and income all in pursuit of their dreams? It’s not easy .

When I met Bekezela he was still waiting on tables at Newscafe. In fact he was our waiter for the day. We were having a meeting with a new client. After the meeting was done , he approached me and asked me to listen to his music and advise him if there was anything that was worth a buzz.

It took me 2weeks to eventually get back to him and the rest as they say is history. Watching him blossom and share his gift with Southern Africa had been a joy. We met exactly a year ago and as friends I am pleased with the strides he has taken to get this far. Within a year he has shared stages with Award winning musicians like Vusi Nova, Ntando and many others and played on shows such as Morning Live and Afternoon Express.
